Frequently asked questions....

Q: How do I place an order?

A:  You can use the "contact us" link  to send us an email.  Simply leave your contact details, and we will email you back as soon as possible to discuss your order.  When asking for a quote it is helpful if you can think of what size, flavour and design you have in mind.

Q: Do you post your cakes?

A:Our cakes are fragile so at present we have no plans to post them!  However we will sometimes post cookies and chocolates, by special request.(payment by PayPal.)

Q: Do you deliver?

A: I'm afraid we are unable to deliver cakes.

Q:Where are you?

A: "'s vegan!" is run from a private address, just outside Colchester town centre. (CO1 postcode)

Q:  How do I pay?

A: Cash on collection/delivery is preferable, but we will also accept PayPal.   Most orders will require a deposit to be paid in advance.

Q: How much notice do I need to give to place an order?

A: As much as possible to ensure we can fill your order.  But if you need your cakes soon, contact us and we will let you know what we can do!

Q: I am lactose intolerant/have an egg/soya allergy, can I eat your cakes?

A:We will never use any products that contain eggs or milk as a listed ingredient.  However depending on availability of ingredients  we may occasionally use icing sugar that carries the warning "may contain traces of egg", and cocoa powder that "may contain traces of milk". If you have a serious allergy then please make us aware before ordering. Al of our cakes contain wheat and soya. If you have a soya allergy we can make most cakes using rice or almond "milk" instead.  (ingredients lists are available on request.)

Q: Do you use peanuts/nuts?

A: We do occasionally use nuts and peanuts in some recipes. Although we take every effort to ensure they don't contaminate any other products we unfortunately can't guarantee that any product will be nut free.  Ingredients list are available on request.

Q: Are your cakes healthy more healthy than non-vegan cakes?

A: Whilst vegan cakes don't contain any butter or eggs, they do still contain sugar and vegetable oil!  Like all cakes they can be enjoyed as a treat alongside a balanced diet, (but they're definitely not a health food!)

Q: Do your cakes taste like "normal" cakes?

A: Our vegan cupcakes are easily as delicious as non-vegan ones!  Our larger celebration cakes do differ in their texture to non-vegan cakes, being less light and more dense. (if you order a sponge it won't be like a victoria sandwich; instead more like the consistency of a madeira cake).

Q: Are your cakes organic?
A: No, but if you would prefer your order to be made with organic ingredients let us know and we can discuss it.

Q: What about food colours?

A: We ensure that all the colourings we use are vegan friendly.
Certain colours commonly used in cake decorating and food production carry the warning: “May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children”.  These colours are Sunset Yellow E110, Quinoline Yellow E104, Carmoisine E122, Allura red E129, Tartrazine E102 and Ponceau E124.  If you prefer that these colours are not used in your cake then please let us know at time of ordering. (please bear in mind this may affect the overall design of your cake!)

Q: Do you make other vegan treats apart from cakes?

A: We currently specialise in cakes and cupcakes, but we also love making cookies, muffins macaroons and "cheese"cakes! If you have something different in mind, let us know and we'll see what we can do!

Q: Aren't they a a bit expensive?  It's just cake?!
(..actually no one has asked this (yet!), but I imagine that it's what a few people think! It's certainly what I used to think before I sold cakes!)

A: In response to this I would say...
The price of a cake is mainly the cost for my time! Making, baking and decorating cakes all takes many hours, and there is also the cost of ingredients and packaging to factor in.
Most bakers sell cakes as a labour of love, (not to get rich quick!) and to charge any less we'd have to practically work for free!
